An appropriate prescription considers refraction, visual acuity and comfort during testing. Glasses can correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism and age-related difficulty focusing up close. Measurements are taken for each eye

Explain how much you read, your monitor distance and how often you drive. This helps you discuss glasses for one distance or different tasks. If blurred vision is related to eye disease, the doctor recommends an appropriate eye health assessment

• Bring your current glasses and previous prescription
• Tell us if you wear contact lenses and ask when to remove them before testing
• Note your usual reading and working distances if you need task-specific glasses

You may need time to adjust to a new correction. If vision remains unclear or you have double vision or significant discomfort, arrange a review of the prescription and the finished glasses. A prescription assessment does not replace an eye health examination

Can I order glasses using an old prescription?

If vision has changed or the prescription has not been checked for some time, it is advisable to repeat the assessment

Are ready-made reading glasses suitable?

They have the same power in both eyes and do not account for every individual measurement. Their suitability should be checked

Do I need separate computer glasses?

This depends on age, refraction and working distance. Your doctor will help you choose an approach
